1) PREVIOUS OWNERS of earlier ShuBox Filing¬ versions
As a previous user of an earlier version of ShuBox Filing¬, the first thing you will notice about ShuBox Filing¬6.1 is that there is only one program. Well, actually you received two, the other one being ShuBox Setup.
But, as a prior user of ShuBox Filing¬ you already have data files on your disk; hence you will not be a user of ShuBox Setup unless you desire to start all over from scratch and set up your data files at the beginning. This is not likely. 6.1 reads and writes the same data files with exceptions noted below that ShuBox Module1, ShuBox Module2, ShuBox Module3, and Payroll created and read.
When you are ready (see IMPORTANT below), you should remove ShuBox Filing¬, ShuBox Module1, ShuBox Module2, ShuBox Module3, and Payroll from your disk and replace it with ShuBox Filing¬6.1.
ShuBox Filing¬6.1 occupies about 569 Kilobytes of your disk space whereas the older versions occupied about 820 Kilobytes.
The 6.1 scheme for printing labels does not use a "Labels" selection on the Imagewriter driver. Select International Fanfold (assuming your label page is 12" long as are mine), Letter, or Legal, depending on your labels page length. Select "No Gaps" between pages. With "No Gaps selected your Imagewriter will Form feed once before commencing to print. Probably the best thing to do to get used to the new scheme is to practice print a few labels to regular paper.
The "Checks" selection is still valid for checks, but notice that the new Imagewriter driver on your disk has moved "Checks" to the sixth slot and you now have access to the "A4 Letter" size.
IMPORTANT. If you use a ShuBox version prior to one commencing with a 5, then the Invoice (payable & receivable) file is a bit longer with 6.1 than that, say, with 4.11.1. You can tell the difference by the size of the edit field used for entering descriptions in the Invoice entry screen. The 5.1.1 and subsequent versions have 34 spaces available for descriptions as opposed to older version's 24 spaces. Also you can tell by looking in the manual that the invoice entry screen is arranged just a bit differently in 6.1 than the older version 4.11.1. If you have only 24 spaces, you should not start using 6.1 until you have finished billing your clients and have executed the Optional Post Billing Reset after printing your receivable and payable invoices to hardcopy. 6.1's logic will clash with the older file sizes. The reason for this change is to accomodate a larger description size for the Inventory descriptions which have been increased to 34 spaces also. The newer inventory scheme also uses a different scheme for categories. Now all inventory items are assigned a sequential number indexed by one each time you make a new entry. The older category 11, 12, 13, ...., 20 was too cumbersome for most users. Now you are permited to label each item with a Category name as desired. The new scheme is more flexible.
2) NEW OWNERS OF ShuBox Filing¬6.1.
Read your manual!
Transfer both ShuBox Filing¬6.1 and ShuBox Setup to your disk. After you have run the DISK SETUP portion under Disk Management, you may remove ShuBox Setup from your disk (Not the Master disk I sent you, but your hard disk.
3) GENERAL
With the reduced size of ShuBox Filing¬6.1, it conceivably would be possible to run the program on an 800 kilobyte floppy system. With your System, Finder, and Imagewriter¿ on one diskette and ShuBox on another, you would have enough left over space for just a few records, not enough to make it worthwhile.
PRINTER NOTE ADDENDUM
The programs are designed to print one inch labels. When printing labels, pick Best as the quality and select the paper size corresponding to the length of your label paper. For example: International fanfold is 12 inches long and letter size is 11 inches long. If you pick "no gaps between pages" the printer should use the last label on your page and then go to the first label at the top of the next page. Remember that the Imagewriter¿ does a Form Feed (not exactly however) prior to commencing printing when "No Gaps" has been chosen. If you do not compensate for this feature, it may surprise you. The program allows you to select the horizantal tab position for printing your labels. The best thing to do is probably experiment on regular paper to familiarize yourself with your printer's characteristics.
